BACKGROUND
The climate crisis, environmental degradation, and rapid technological change are not only scientific or technical challenges — they are deeply social, cultural, and ethical in nature. As the world strives toward sustainability, it is increasingly clear that transforming society requires more than just green technology; it demands a rethinking of values, behaviors, institutions, and the very narratives we live by.
The 7th Borobudur International Symposium on Humanities and Social Science 2025 seeks to explore these transformative dimensions by offering a forum for critical and interdisciplinary perspectives from the humanities and social sciences. With the theme “Transforming Societies for a Greener Future: Interdisciplinary Insights from Humanities and Social Sciences”, this symposium invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to reflect on the human, cultural, legal, political, and ethical frameworks that shape and are shaped by sustainability efforts.
Key issues include the role of environmental education and communication, social behavior and resilience, cultural heritage and sustainability, environmental governance, green policy and law, indigenous and local knowledge, and the ethics of climate and intergenerational justice.
This conference recognizes that achieving a greener future requires more than innovation — it requires understanding. And that understanding lies in the narratives, values, and structures examined by the humanities and social sciences.
